If you are running an operating system other than Microsoft Windows on your host machine,
then there is no vulnerability. If you downloaded ParaChat Server v5.5 prior to
September 29, 2004, and are hosting ParaChat Server on a machine that runs a Microsoft
Windows operating system, then you should install this patch. If you are using ParaChat
Server "Release v55-rel-5513" or later, then you do not need to install this patch.
To determine the ParaChat version and release number in a Windows installation:
1. Find server.bat under the main ParaChat Server directory (i.e. .../ParaChat/ParaChat550/)
2. Double-click the server.bat file
3. A DOS window will launch that displays the version and release number
A new ParaChat Server v5.5 .jar file is available to patch this Microsoft Windows vulnerability,
which you may download by visiting:
To install the patch:
1. Stop your ParaChat Server Windows service
2. Back up your ParaChat550 directory
3. Replace (or re-name) the existing chat500.jar file within the "ParaChat550" directory with the new chat500.jar contained in the
parachat550-patch.zip file (file path: .../ParaChat/ParaChat550/chat500.jar)
4. Start your ParaChat Server Windows service
Upgrade to new ParaChat Server v5.5. Simply download
the new software, and then review the upgrade instructions
(Windows | Linux/Unix).
